Pushchair control

Posted 18 June 2015 in Stories

Celine was unable to take her young son, Chili, out in his pushchair as she can’t walk without callipers and crutches as a result of meningitis as a child.

Volunteers at Remap Essex West made a device which clips to the pushchair handle and is sewn to a belt.

Celine can now control the pushchair and is able to take Chili to the shops or to the park where they now mix with the other mothers and children.

Firstly, I’d just like to say what a fantastic job I think you guys do. Being disabled and wanting a child but actually being able to look after it has played on my mind for a long time now, but knowing that there are organisations out there that support disabled parents has helped put my mind at rest.
I’m expecting our first baby in May 2018 and currently walk with crutches due to hip dysplasia and I also had spinal fusion surgery almost 2 years ago. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to manage with 1 crutch whilst pushing a buggy / pram / pushchair, but I’d be interested in finding out a bit more about this particular device / aid you made for Celine. Do you have a more detailed article / case study about it, or even a few more pictures? I’m sure there are going to be lots of things I could do with being modified / made to enable me to look after the baby, so anything else that you have made specifically for people using crutches / with bending problems would be a huge help.

We’ll be in touch with you Helen. Each item is made for an individual, so yours might be quite different to this!
