Panel Chairman

The key figure on any panel is the chairman. He/she is responsible for ensuring the panel operates effectively, and within the framework set out in Remap’s Operations Manual. He/she is also the public face of Remap in the local area, responsible for ensuring the panel is well-known and respected in the community it serves and for building the relationships that will help their panel attract volunteers and carry out more projects for people with disabilities.

Chairmen may not be technical volunteers, indeed, since their primary role is leading the panel and networking in the community a management background may be more appropriate. On his or her task list will be the following:

  • Developing the panel by finding new volunteers and ensuring they are welcomed to the team and supported to enable them to contribute productively
  • Managing volunteers within the panel to ensure they work well as a team
  • Ensuring that each job that comes in is assigned to the most appropriate volunteer
  • Making presentations to health professionals, disability organisations and other voluntary groups in order to reach more potential clients
  • Ensuring promotional material is distributed locally
  • Marketing Remap and creating awareness among influential groups generally, especially potential funders
  • Working with central office to identify potential local sources of funding

Panel secretary

The panel secretary is responsible for taking and preserving accurate minutes of meetings, maintaining records of clients (taking into account data protection issues), and keeping records of volunteers, ensuring central office is informed of changes.

Treasurer

The treasurer is responsible for:

  • managing the panel’s finances and its bank account
  • keeping proper records of money coming in and going out
  • reimbursing expenses to volunteers
  • managing donations properly, including notifying central office of restricted donations and supplying documentation
  • ensuring surplus funds are transferred in a timely manner to the common investment fund
  • completing the panel’s end-of-year return
