Volunteering roles – Engineer Maker
What will you be doing?
Use your practical skills and ingenuity to help people with disabilities live fuller and more independent lives. The role involves designing and making pieces of equipment for individuals who have a specific need. Requests for help come from health professionals or directly from the public and we only help where no existing product is commercially available. You will be joining a local group of like-minded enthusiasts and with some opportunities for collaboration.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for people who have practical skills, working with one or more of metal, wood, plastic, or electronics. It is also important to be able to listen well, to understand someone needs, translate that into a practical design and ensure the equipment made is appropriate and safe.
Ideally, you will have your own tools and workshop to make the equipment (or can access these) and it is a great help if you drive and have access to a car. You are expected to attend a monthly meeting of the local group and all expenses are paid.
